What's the best way to handle severe static charge in silks? Please don't say "Static Guard"... I *HATE* that smell! I just cannot tolerate the smell of whatever chemicals are in it. Can the silks be treated with something? Rinsed with Downey or something like that??

I agree....Static Guard smells like yuck!

What I do is I run the veil through an all-wire hanger (so that the silk drags across the wire) right before I perform with it (like 10 or fewer minutes beforehand). You should hear it snap crackle pop....that's the metal picking up the stray electrons.

It also helps to hang up the veil in your bathroom when you take a shower the day of your performance.

here are a couple of things I do to get rid of static.

First off I store my veils with a dryer sheet.

Static is partially cause by dryness so if you hang it in the bathroom with you while you shower or iron it (low heat) with water spray the static will go away.

        Hope that helps!

I can't remember where I heard this, but the dryer sheet (i.e. Bounce) isn't really a good idea for silks. The sheets can leave a coating of the softener stuff on the silks that can affect how they feel and behave. I've purposely kept those things away from my silks for just that reason. I'll try hanging them on an all metal hanger (if I have one! ... must check closets) and hang them in the shower before packing them in my bag.

          Thanks for the ideas!!
