Thanks to the gorgeous photos of Katerina you posted on tribe, I was inspired to try veil poi. Thanks to you and Katerina.
The show photographer took a couple nice shots...I have them in profile. They are available to use with photo credit if you need them for anything.

Mon, December 10, 2007 - 1:47 PMBeautiful dancing with poi. Were you dancing with little 'wings'. The veils did not look like regular rectangular veils, although you were spinning so much it was sometimes difficult to see for the waves of silk around you. Fantastic. Look forward to your next veil poi video post.
You have inspired me too ! A. -

Re: My veil poi debut...
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 8:48 PMThe veils are the big half circles from A'Kai. I think you might be able to do more poi tricks with the miniwings but the big ones make for some pretty dramatic pictures.
I need to get back to practicing. My bruises are healing from practicing for that particular show (need to pad the zill next time or find a new system).
Thanks!

Re: My veil poi debut...
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 10:50 PMMelissa, how did you make the poi themselves?
And if you are using zills to weight them, you should use a little weighted bag- I've seen some of the dancers use them on 'streamer poi' it looks like it would work on veil poi too-same principle really....I think the ones that cheeky girl sells have little weighted bags.
I am going to cross my fingers that Santa brings me some money to buy some 'poi' I have the veils already- just need to get the slinging bit *grin* -

Re: My veil poi debut...
Wed, December 12, 2007 - 2:55 PMThey are just plain bean bag poi from the local juggling shop. I think they originally came from Dube. I tried making my own out of string and little bean bag hackey sacs before I got these. Worked fine until the hole stretched and all the beans fell out. :-)!
I've been looking at the cheeky girl system and thinking about getting her weighted bags...also thinking about trying to do my own. I definitely need to improve the old one....afraid I was going to knock my teeth out if I took a wrong move!

Wed, March 26, 2008 - 3:44 PMHere's another Voi clip with little wildfire wings...please ignore the big moose pic in background. :-)! The big ones are much more dramatic (EYE CANDY!!!!) but the little ones are much less stressful and easier to perform with...less chance of total disaster.

I've been messing around with weight, but can't find the right weight for me....how heavy do you have yours?
